Here at Soundrop, transparency is one of our core values. We hope that when we’re up-front and communicative, you can plan around any changes in our service.
In that spirit, we want to let you know that we’ve been working on a new agreement for Spotify which involves some changes to the reporting and payment schedule. Unfortunately, we just learned that this transition has introduced a delay in our Spotify payments and we won't receive our next Spotify payment until AFTER our October payout.
What does this mean for you?
June’s Spotify streams were reported and paid in September. July’s Spotify streams will be reported and paid in November. This means there will not be Spotify revenue in October’s payments.
This is a good reminder that reporting & payment cycles are always subject to change. Stores and distributors sometimes have issues with reports or need to change their schedule for a variety of reasons which can affect how you get paid.
Keeping things as smooth and consistent as possible is very important to us. It’s a huge bummer when something unavoidable happens that negatively affects our artists like this. Below are some of the questions we are anticipating you’ll have. If you have any other questions, please let us know by clicking “Submit a Request” at the top of this page.
Why is this happening?
We're always trying to get better deals for you, and we've been working on a new agreement with Spotify. This involves some changes to reporting & payment. Because of this, reporting and payment for Spotify won’t be available until after our normal October payment.
How did payments work before?
Spotify payments were reported to you 3 months after your streams occurred. May streams were reported in August, June in September and so on.
What’s the new agreement?
The agreement is confidential and we can’t share details, but we are approaching this agreement to get the best possible deal for you.
Can you just pay out Spotify money as soon as you get it?
No, our system is built specifically for monthly, systemwide payments.
Can you just delay our payment until you get the Spotify money?
No. We are required to process mechanical royalties for cover songs by a certain time of the month, and it must be part of our normal mid-month payment process.
Will there be TWO months of Spotify in a single payout in the future?
Since our agreement is still in progress, we aren’t sure… yet! If we can do a double “catchup” payment, we absolutely will. We will update this article as soon as we know more.
Will there still be a payment this month?
Of course! We’ll still have reporting and payment from every other service as usual - this one-time delay only affects Spotify.
