You probably already know that you can set up automatic revenue splits in your Soundrop account, that splits can differ from track to track, and that there’s no cost for your collaborators to set up a Soundrop account and start getting paid.
But did you know our rev splits feature can be used for much more than paying your collaborators? You can pay… anyone:
- A charity (ACLU, animal rights, etc.)
- Your cousin's GoFundMe
- Your 4th Grade music teacher who was your inspiration
Share a portion of your earnings from any individual track, album or artist. Choose the beginning and end dates, or just have it run indefinitely. You can use it as a promotion or quietly support a cause you believe in. Totally up to you!
Before You Start:
There are a couple of things you'll want to keep in mind before you send us the request.
The most important things are to ask first. 99.99999999% of the time, the organization will be totally stoked and appreciative. Sometimes, it might be more complicated. It's always a good idea to check with the organization to make sure it's cool, and so they know to be on the lookout for your donation.
Secondly, leave the promotion for your social media/website / YouTube videos (and maybe your album art). We absolutely love it when people set up their music to benefit others. However, there are certain rules we still need to follow to make your music ready to sell. We won't be able to distribute music with "All proceeds go to charity" or "Song to benefit the Humane Society" in your album title or track titles. You can include language like "Song to benefit ACLU" on your art only, as long as the phrase does not mention monetary amounts or percentages.
Are you ready to change the world??
All we need are the details about the splits and a contact email address for the recipient. We’ll make sure they have a Soundrop account and email them an invite (you’ll want to make sure they know to look for it). They’ll log in, enter their payment details and automatically start collecting your monthly donation. And because we have zero membership fees, it’s as easy as that.
We’re all about simplicity, flexibility and putting music to work for a greater good.
