If your artist name, release title, or track titles use a non-Latin character set, you can add localizations to provide the information in another character set.
Localizations can help listeners find and identify your music in different regions. Only use localization fields when providing your metadata in a different character set.
When should I add a localization?
Add a localization when your artist name or titles need to be represented using a different character set, such as Cyrillic, Japanese, Hebrew, or Chinese.
Don't use localization fields to give your release or artist a different name in another language. The localized information should represent the same artist name or title as your primary metadata.
Make sure your primary metadata matches your cover art
The language and character set used for your primary metadata should match the information displayed on your cover art.
For example, if your cover art displays your artist name and release title in English, enter those details in English as your primary metadata. You can then add another character set as a localization.
For more information, see How to match your cover art to your release.
How to add a localization to an artist name
To add a localized version of an artist name:
- Go to Rights Holders.
- Select Artists.
- Select the artist you want to update.
- Scroll to the localization section.
- Select + Add artist name localization.
- Enter the artist name in the appropriate character set.
How to add a localization to a release or track title
When entering your release or track title, select + Add a title in another language and enter the localized title.
Make sure you use localization consistently across your release where required.
Requirements for Hebrew content
Hebrew content must include both:
- the original metadata in Hebrew; and
- an English-character transliteration of the Hebrew.
For Hebrew content, use a transliteration rather than translating the meaning into English.
For example, for the Hebrew title תודה:
- Hebrew: תודה
- English-character transliteration: Toda
Don't enter Thank You as the English localization. That's a translation of the title rather than a transliteration.
Requirements for Chinese content
Chinese-language releases must include metadata in both Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese for:
- the release title;
- all track titles; and
- artist names.
If you also add an English localization, add it consistently to the release title, every track title, and the artist name.
