When creating a release in Soundrop, you'll add the artists and contributors who worked on your music and select the appropriate role for each person.
Artist and contributor roles are added in the Main Info and Tracks sections of your release. Songwriters and composers are credited separately in the Publishing section.
What roles are required?
Each track must have at least:
- one performer role;
- one production or engineering role;
- one composer; and
- one lyricist, unless the track is instrumental.
One person can have more than one role when appropriate.
Common artist roles
Primary Artist
Select Primary Artist for the main artist or artists performing on the release or track.
Primary artists are generally displayed as the main credited artists on music platforms, and the release may appear on each primary artist's profile.
Featuring Artist
Select Featuring Artist for an artist who makes a guest appearance on the track or release but isn't one of the main artists.
Featuring artists may be displayed separately from the primary artist on music platforms.
Producer
Select Producer for someone responsible for producing the recording, such as overseeing the recording process or creating the musical production supporting the performance.
Remixer
Select Remixer for someone who created a new version of a recording using elements from a pre-existing track.
Other performers and contributors
Soundrop also supports additional performer, production, engineering, and contributor roles. Select the role that most accurately describes the person's contribution to the recording.
Not every music platform displays every contributor role, but you should still provide accurate credits when creating your release.
How do I credit songwriters and composers?
Songwriters and composers are added in the Publishing section rather than as artist credits.
For original and public domain compositions, provide the appropriate songwriter or composer information for everyone who contributed to the composition.
Classical releases have Composer and Arranger options in the Publishing section.
Can I add or change artist credits after distribution?
You can add or remove some artist and contributor credits after your release has been distributed.
See What can I change on my Soundrop release? to check whether the credit can be updated, and How do I update a Soundrop release after delivery? for instructions.
