The Title Version field describes a specific version of a release or track when additional information is needed to distinguish it from the original version.
For example, you might use the Title Version field to identify a track as a live performance, remix, remaster, or a particular version of a cover song.
Do not enter the release title or track title in the Title Version field.
When should I use a Title Version?
Use a Title Version when the information helps distinguish your recording from another version of the same song.
Examples include:
- Acoustic Version
- Live
- Radio Edit
- Remastered
- Spanish Version
- Metal Version
- Solo Accordion Version
For example, if you record a metal cover of a song that was not originally metal, 'Metal Version' can help distinguish your recording from the original.
However, you generally do not need to add a genre as the Title Version when it does not distinguish your recording. For example, a metal cover of a song that was already originally released as metal would not normally need Metal Version.
When is a Title Version required?
A Title Version may be required when:
- You are distributing a cover song and need to distinguish your recording from the original composition.
- You are releasing a new version of one of your own songs.
- The recording is a live performance recorded in front of an audience.
- The track is a radio edit.
- The track has been remastered.
- A language, genre, instrumentation, mix, or other characteristic distinguishes the recording from another version of the song.
What should I NOT enter as a Title Version?
Do not use the Title Version field for information that belongs somewhere else in your release metadata. Do not enter:
- Artist names
- The release or track title
- A translation of the title
- Clean or Explicit
- Limited Edition
- New
- Original or Original Mix
- Re-recorded
- Soundtrack information
Artist names, explicit-content designations, translations, and other metadata have their own dedicated fields in Soundrop.
For soundtrack formatting, follow Soundrop's soundtrack formatting requirements instead of adding soundtrack information as a Title Version.
What if my song is in a different language?
If you are releasing multiple versions of the same song in different languages, a translated title may be enough to distinguish the versions.
You do not need to repeat the language in the Title Version field when the translated title already identifies the different version.
For more information about translated titles and artist names, see Releases in Other Character Sets: A Quick Guide to Localizations.
